1707 William Dampier Voyages 1ed Illustrated MAPS Pirates PERU Honduras Funnell
An incredibly rare and desirable voyages book on William Dampier’s 1703 South Seas voyage! ‘Voyage Round the World’, reminiscent of Dampier’s similarly titled work, covers the most important and aspects of Dampier’s adventures in Mexico, Brazil, Cape Horn, Chili, and Peru.
Author William Funnel was the first mate to Dampier and wrote a first-hand account of all the encounters and discoveries on Dampier’s voyage. This voyage, which circumnavigated the world, was initiated with the intents of pirating Spanish ships for their role in the War of Spanish Succession. Unfortunately for Dampier, mutiny was afoot and he was marooned at Amapalla Bay. Funnell completed the voyage for Dampier and published this exceedingly rare and valuable account of the voyage.
This 1707 first edition features stunning folding maps and full-page illustrations. The map of the Gulf of Amapalla is especially desirable.
