Johann Sturm was a celebrated German philosopher and mathematician during the 17^th-century. While he wrote numerous works on physics and philosophy, his most important was perhaps his science and mathematics treatise for young students. This work, “Mathesis Juvenilis”, offers essays and studies on a variety of topics including astronomy, chronology, dialing (use of sundials, etc.), simple and complex mathematics, and so much more.

This third volume from the 1708 English first edition is the astronomy volume with numerous references to early astronomers such as Pope Gregory, ancient Egyptian star astrologers, the motion of heavenly bodies (planets, moons, stars, comets), and development of the understanding of astronomy over time. It also includes numerous full-page and folding engravings and charts throughout.
