Wilkins served as the Bishop of Chester in the 17^th-century at a time when controversy was regular throughout England and the Church of England; however, Wilkins remained steady and free of controversy throughout his career. One of his best books was this discourse on prayer – a work which offered direction on prayer, its purpose, methods, and proper expression. This 1718 edition also contains Wilkin’s ‘Ecclesiastes’ – a discourse and instructional manual on preaching.
