Johannes Piscator was a 16^th-century German Calvinist theologian who is best-remembered for his important translation of the Bible. His German Bible first appeared following the successes of his Old and New Testament commentaries – which portions of are contained in this absolutely enormous 1736 Swiss edition.

The Piscator Bible, as it has become known, was the first Calvinist Bible written in German. In fact, Luther Bibles were the only German Bibles used by the Reformed Church prior to Piscator’s translation.
