1740 1ed Wyndham Tour in WALES & Monmouthshire Castles + Edward Science Memoirs
A curious pairing of two interesting 18th-century works – the ‘Memoirs’ of English naturalist George Edwards and Henry Wyndham’s “Tour Through Monmouthshire and Wales”.
Edwards studied birds and animals and covered them extensively in his writings which contains his descriptions of crocodiles and alligators, frog fish of Suriname, the Argus pheasant, the lynx, the Snake Eater bird, and others all of which included references to Carl Linneaus and his nomenclature.
The much more extensive portion of this book is dedicated to the report of Wyndham’s 1774 and 1777 voyages through Wales and Monmouthshire. This book offers descriptions of iconic locations – castles, and cathedrals, and ruins mainly – and includes absolutely stunning engravings of the locations.
