1746 HORSES Parfait Marechal de Garsault Illustrated Herbal Veterinary Medicine
Francois de Garsault was an 18th-century French zoologist known, not only for his zoological studies but for his research in botany. Though, his most important book was ‘Nouveau Parfait Marechal’ – an instructional treatise for French marshals. And while this book does focus on the expectations of marshals, this book is best recognized by its incredible descriptions of horses, horse riding, breaking and training, cavalry instructions, as well as veterinary and herbal care of horses. Note that this work includes impressive, folding engravings throughout!

- Louis Félicien Joseph Caignart de Saulcy (1807–1880) was a French numismatist, Orientalist, and archaeologist. While he first enlisted in the military and studied theories of artillery, his interest in archaeology took up most of his time. In 1843, De Saulcy deciphered the Libyco-Berber script almost fully, thanks to the Punic-Libyan Inscription. He travelled though Syria and Palestine in 1850–51, 1863, and 1869; and conducted an early archaeological dig in the Holy Land in 1863.
