Johann Friedrich Polack was an 18^th-century German law scholar and mathematician, best-remembered for his work ‘Mathesis Forensis’. Also known as ‘Forensic Mathematics’ (1734), this work is one of the earliest treatises to push for the use of math when making legal decisions. Polack noted specific cases – bankruptcy suits, inheritance cases, surveying and land ownership, property disputes, interest gains, etc.

This 1756 German edition was published in Leipzig and features numerous in-text charts and folding tables.
