“Holds the key to Alchemy!” (Gardner)

‘The Golden Chain of Homer’, or ‘Aurea Catena Homeri’, is one of the most important works of alchemy and heretics of the 18th-century. Originally written in 1723, this work was a study into the school of practical metaphysics with heavy influence from the alchemical tradition (Heym). Heym further states that this book is “one of the most logical and readable books among a hundred books more less absurdly speculative.”

During a time when alchemy was finally being proven a pseudo-science, Anton Kirchweger wrote this ‘final attempt’ to combat new scientific thinking that was prevalent throughout Western Europe in hopes of preserving alchemy as a truth. He describes experiments used in alchemical studies using simple ingredients found in the earth and water.

This 1763 second edition was a reissue of Ludwig Favrat‘s Latin edition and features a printing of Favrat’s own thesis at the end.
