1766 ENORMOUS Bible Common Prayer Church of England Psalms Oxford Mark Baskett
In 1712, John Baskett began printing the Book of Common Prayer, shortly after the success of the 1710 New Testament. Baskett was the printer to the king during the first half of the 18th-century. This 1766 edition was curiously published by Mark Baskett, John’s grandson. However, it is known that many Baskett Bibles and other works were published with the name ‘Mark’ on the title page to prevent various forms of prosecution, noted by Isaiah Thomas.
This particular folio issue contains not only Common Prayer, but also the Psalms, and “Constitutions and Canons Ecclesiastical”. Note the impressive frontispiece of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.
