Charles-Louis de Montesquieu was a French political philosopher who is known for his works on political theory. While he is best known for his work ‘Spirit of the Laws’, he also wrote an interesting work on Roman mythology entitled ‘The Temple of Gnidus’. Knidos was an ancient Greek city which housed a temple dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite, or Venus. This book was edited and made into poetic verse by Charles-Pierre Colardeau and published in late 18th-century. This edition includes 8 fine, full-page engravings.
