This is a view of knowledge, as it were in stamine; exhibiting only the grand, constituent parts thereof.”

– Ephraim Chambers, Cyclopaedia, preface

An absolutely enormous 18th-century printing of Ephraim Chambers’ famous “Cyclopaedia’ – a work which would become a direct inspiration for Diderot and d’Alembert’s “Encyclopedia”. Many encyclopedias written during the 18th-century and early were specific to areas of study; however, this work includes a broad array of topics, including astronomy, law, medicine, military, navigation, music and more! According to historians, this landmark work was as influential, or to some even more so, as Samuel Johnson’s great Dictionary. Chambers’s Cyclopedia had even a more important impact on defining cultural significance.

It is hard to describe the size of this set. This set is massive! It is easily one of the largest, heaviest, and most impressive set of four uniform tomes available anywhere!
