Originally published in 1651, Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Trattato della Pittura’ or ‘Treatise on Painting’ is a collection of notes and writings on painting. The main focus of this treatise was to convey that painting was a science and not just an artform. (Greenberg, 259). Da Vinci discusses the state of human emotion in art and incorporates the depictions of those emotions in his art.

This 1786 edition was collected and edited by Leon Battista Alberti and is notable for features 19 full-page engravings depicting woodcut figures of da Vinci’s work. A remarkable 18^th-century printing of da Vinci’s most iconic work on visual art.
