    • Captain George Preston Blow (1860-1922) was an American naval officer, taking part in numerous historical maritime events before and during the Spanish-American War. Among the most notable experiences of his career were: sailing on the USS Pensacola under Admiral George Dewey in 1885; being assigned to the detail of King Kalakaua of Hawaii during the royal’s final voyage in 1890 to California; being knighted by Queen Liliuokalani; attempting the salvage of the treasure ship HMS Braak and Spanish cruiser Infanta Maria Theresa; and surviving the sinking of the USS Maine, on which he was stationed when it exploded in Havana Harbor.
