Germantown, Pennsylvania was an early American Dutch / German settlement near Philadelphia that, near the turn of the century, was densely populated with Quakers and other German-speaking protestants. Numerous devotional works as well as Bibles were published in Germantown to meet the demand of German readers in the area, works such as this 1799 Psalter. This unique piece includes journal-like clasps on a fine, leather binding.
