Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben was an important 18th-century Prussian military figure whose influence in the American Revolution was critical. He wrote a book that served as the standard United States drill manual – “Regulations for the Order and Discipline of the Troops” – which would be used until the end of the Civil War. It was used in troop and infantry training at Valley Forge beginning in 1779. The book has colloquially been called the army’s ‘blue book.’

This 1803 edition was printed with incredible folded plates illustrated depicting troop movement and formation, battle tactics, proper attire and stances, firearm usage, and more. This book is notoriously rare and valuable.
