John Cary was a famous English cartographer from the 18^th-century. Cary gained his reputation as a map maker from his works on globes and traveler’s guides – atlas works which would become the standard references works in England by the end of the 1700s.

His book “Traveller’s Companion” was published in 1790 which was a collection of maps depicting the major roads in England and Wales. It features numerous charts of distances, road lengths, crossroads and intersections, and much more important topographical data.

Note that this 1812 edition includes all 43 double-page maps, each hand-colored.
