Hewson Clarke was an early 19th-century English historian known for his works on major European events. He published a continuation of Hume’s ‘History of England’, a historical view of the political events of Europe, as well as a ‘History of the French Revolution.

This rare 1816 first edition of Clarke’s ‘French Revolution’ is profusely illustrated with impressive full-page portraits and colored, folding maps. This work describes in detail many of the important battles fought in the Napoleonic Wars such as the Battles of Kehl, Rastatt, and Genola.

In addition to the three-volume first edition of ‘History of the War’, this set features an additional volume, uniformly bound, of “A new History of the twenty year’s war with France”. This book was also published by Kinnersely at the same time as Clarke’s work, written by an unknown author.
