Throughout the mid-19^th-century, many American authors wrote surveys on the life of famed President Andrew Jackson. While Jackson’s presidency brought him his most notable prestige, his military career is perhaps his most lasting impact.

During the Gulf Campaign of the War of 1812, Jackson led the United States army in what became the most important battle of the war – The Battle of New Orleans. The Americans devastated British forces much in part to Jackson and his commands.

Authors were quick to publish accounts and celebrations of the victory in New Orleans, including James M’Henry and Robert Walsh who wrote “The Jackson Wreath” – a modest biography and presidential campaign propaganda of the future president.
