Joseph Alexander Adams was an American engraver and the first electrotyper in the United States. This book ‘The Fairy Book’ was written in hopes of re-popularizing old children’s tales for, as the writer believed, the betterment of all people, not just children. The introduction is signed by a ‘John Smith’ with illustrations done by J. A. Adams, though it’s unclear whether these are the same person. Nevertheless, this delightful first edition includes some of the most famous fairy tales of all time including, ‘Little Red Riding Hood,’ ‘Blue Beard,’ ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ ‘Puss in Boots,’ ‘Cinderella,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ and more!

This very rare 1st edition of ‘The Fairy Book’ includes 81 woodcuts by Adams.
