A beautiful printing of John Foxe’s famous “Actes and Monuments”. Foxe began working on this landmark work in 1552. While in exile, in 1554, the first examples of this book were published in Latin focusing on the religious persecution of Lollards in England during the 1400s. However, the rest of his book was written in response to more persecution occurring throughout England.

This edition includes stunning full-page art depicting torture, assassinations and deaths of famous martyrs. The 1840 John Kennedy edition is famous in that it was the first to regularize the title “Foxe’s Book of Martyrs” with the author’s name as part of the title.
