Sir Edward Belcher was a British Naval admiral known for commanding the HMS Samarang and HMS Sulphur in the Royal Navy. Belcher wrote narratives on these voyages noting the action of the First Opium War, surveys and discoveries of the Pacific Coast from South America to Alaska, and visit various ports throughout the world.
