James Cowles Prichard was one of the most prolific 19^th-century English ethnologists much in part to his studies in natural selection in humans. He wrote important surveys of evolutionary sciences and theories including both ‘Physical History of Man’ and ‘Natural History of Man’. The latter, which proved to be one of the best works on monogenism, describes the commonalities and differences in humans with an emphasis in physical traits.

This 1845 edition of Prichard’s ‘Natural History of Man’ includes numerous full-page color engravings as well as countless other in-text illustrations, perhaps the most desirable is that of the Algonquin and Iroquois Indians!
