1845 TEXAS 1ed Cuidad MIER Texian Expedition MEXICO Prison Escape Sam Houston
Thomas Jefferson Green was a 19th-century American politician who is curiously much better remembered for his expeditions into Mexico. One of his expeditions ended in disaster. The Mier expedition, as it is commonly known today, began in 1842 when a militia from Texas took up arms at the Mexican border, but the Mexicans defeated Green and the rest of the party at the Battle of Cuidad Mier. While Green survived the battle, he was taken prisoner by the Mexican defenders. Green would ultimately escape from prison and would later write a book recounting his experience in battle, imprisonment, and escape!
First published in 1845, this book is an excellent and highly reliable resource on the Texas / Mexico land disputes of the mid-19th-century.

- Donald Guthrie, Sayre
- Donald Guthrie (1880–1958) was an American surgeon best known for establishing Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, Pennsylvania in 1910. One of nation’s earliest multi-specialty group medical practices, Guthrie based the formation of the clinic on the principles he learned while a surgical resident at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Guthrie was one of 13 founding members of the American Board of Surgery, evidence of his commitment to medical education and belief in board certification for physicians. During his term as President of the Pennsylvania State Medical Society, Guthrie started a program of postgraduate teaching for general practitioners in their local communities.
