Major Samuel Shaw was an 18^th-century officer in the Continental Army, who served under General Henry Knox and the 3^rd Artillery Regiment. Following his service in the army, Shaw was part of a voyage to China in which he was appointed Consul by the Continental Congress. The journals that he kept on this voyage, as well as those on the American revolution, were published in 1847 by Crosby and Nichols.
