1853 Charles Dickens 1ed 1st printing Bleak House English Literature Phiz ART
“And I am bored to death with it. Bored to death with this place, bored to death with my life, bored to death with myself.”
― Charles Dickens, Bleak House
A beautiful, first edition printing of ‘Bleak House’ by Charles Dickens. This novel is considered to have been modeled after aspects of Dickens real life. According to Eckel,
“many of the characters in this book were identified as having for their prototypes several of Dickens’s friends.”
It features the illustrations of H.K. Browne, who would become known as ‘Phiz’ in later printings of Dickens’s works. Dickens wrote ‘Bleak House’ as a satire on the English judicial system and incorporates highly controversial subject matter including character death by spontaneous human combustion!
This edition meets all expected first edition points. See below.
