1856 Life of Marquis de Lafayette American Revolution + MLB Baseball Provenance
“The happiness of America is intimately connected with the happiness of all mankind”
― Marquis De Lafayette
Marquis de Lafayette was a French military general who fought in the American Revolutionary War and was a key figure in the French Revolution. His military memoirs and correspondence have been recorded, published, and read profusely since the early 19th-century. This collection of French writings include letters, speeches, military tactics, events from his American tour, and more.
A rare, first edition printing of P.C. Headley’s account of ‘The Life of General Lafayette’, published by Leavitt and Allen in New York.
While the book itself is desirable, an additional draw of this particular example is the provenance. It was previously owned by Harry Pulliam, in Louisville KY in 1883. Pulliam would eventually become the sixth president of the National League.
