1857 Siege of Kars 1ed Crimean War Ottoman Empire Turkey MAP Russia Atwell Lake
The Crimean War was one of the most important 19th-century European wars, with the Russian Empire falling to the Ottoman/English/French alliance. However, the final push for the Russians took place in Kars, where the Russian troops made a desperate attempt to take Kars from the Ottomans in Asia Minor.
The siege worked. It was one of the only major victories for Russia during the war, capturing the city and establishing a new front; however, it was too little too late and Russia still lost the war a year later.
Author, British military officer, and eye-witness Colonel Atwell Lake published an account of the battle – a report of official documents of the battle which has become one of if not the most authoritative account of the Siege of Kars. This first edition includes all of the expected maps and folding illustrations.
