Guillaume Deguileville was a 14th-century French writer who is known primarily for his acrostic poems known as the ‘Pèlerinage’ trilogy. When it was first written, this medieval poem was one of the first known instances of combining prose and lyric verse.
This 1858 English edition was collected and edited by Nathaniel Hill and includes numerous in-text illustrations in the style of 15th-century masters. Hill uses this work to compare Guileville’s “Pilgrimage of Man’ to John Bunyan’s ‘Pilgrim’s Progress’.
