In the mid-19^th-century, Charles Knight published an illustrated edition of the works of Shakespeare, a set that proved to be very popular throughout the English-speaking world, into the late 1800s. It included all of the famous works one would expect to be in a collection of Shakespeare, but unlike other editions of the same era, this particular example features the impressive full-page engravings of character portraits including one of Edwin Booth playing Iago in Othello.

This American edition was published in New York by Martin and Johnson who used Halliwell, Knight, and Collier’s translations. An impressive example of Shakespeare.
