“Even the darkest night will end, and the sun will rise.”
― Victor Hugo, Les Misérables
**Extremely rare and desirable first edition **
The best-known and oft-considered greatest French writer is unarguably Victor Hugo. His romance novels and stories have withstood the test of language and time. His most famous work, ‘Les Miserables’, has been transformed into film, theatre, and opera.
This first French (Paris) edition of ‘Les Mis’ states 1862 on the title page, and does include mention of Brussels, Lacroix on the verso of the half title. It includes all ten volumes (in five tomes), but each volume has no statement of edition on any title page.
The beautiful, green leather binding and marbled boards make this set truly a valuable treasure!
