Enormous family Bibles were quite popular in the second half of the 1800s, and this tome is a fine example of enormous, folio family Bibles. This particular Bible contains numerous commentaries including those from Thomas Scott and Matthew Henry. The series of illustrations throughout also make this huge tome an impressive, desirable work.

Interestingly, this particular 1865 example features a brass frame around the front and back boards accompanying the functional clasps.
