This 1878 New Testament Bible was published in Beirut by Vincentius Bracco and the Patribus Societatis Jesu, Berythi Phoeniceorum [Jesuits]. Per the dedication page of this volume, the contents include the four Gospel Books, Book of Acts, Canonical letters, and Revelation. Each page features a charming, decorative border around the text along with the 10 full-page engravings of notable New Testament scenes.

According to Darlow & Moule,

“A new translation, produced, as a rival to Van Dyck’s [Arabic version], by members of the Society of Jesus at Beirut, with the help of Ibrahim El-Yaziji. According to the Latin preface, the translation was made from the original Hebrew and Greek, compared with the Latin Vulgate, the Greek LXX, and the Syriac. But in the critical passages –ubi agebatur de fide ac moribus– the Vulgate was followed.

This particular Bible version was known to be used by Abdu’l-Baha, the head of the Baha’I Faith in the late 19th-century, according to the Universal House of Justice. Commonly referred to in Baha’i texts as ‘The Master’, ‘Abdu’l-Baha formalized the Universal House of Justice and established institutions within the Baha’i Faith particularly in Israel and Iran.
