1882 Ingoldsby Legends Occult Ghosts Devils Illustrated Cruikshank Abracadabra
“ABRACADABRA!”
A beautiful and attractive 1882 printing of the famous “Ingoldsby Legends.” This collection of myths, ghost stories, and poetry was written by R.H. Barham, who is better known by his penname, Thomas Ingoldsby.
These legends were extremely popular from their inception in 1837. While this collection is less popular today than it was in the 19th-century, it does include aspects that are still recognizable – the magic command “Abracadabra” and a version of the children’s song Bingo! Other selections in this complete series include:
- The Black Mousquetaire
- Merchant of Venice
- Nell Cook
- Aunt Fanny
- Dead Drummer
- Babes in the Wood
- Raising the Devil
- Of the Old Woman Clothed in Grey
- Smuggler’s Leap
This 1882 edition includes 50 illustrations by George Cruikshank, John Leech, John Tenniel, Barham, Du Maurier, and other famous artists
