It is filled with illustrations depicting armor and weaponry, hats and costume, and so much more, all describing the dress from the 1620s through the end of the 19th-century.

Pollard-Urquhart is also listed as one of the original subscribers to this compilation; as such, his Subscriber’s Copy was one of only 700 printed. He was also the son of William Pollard-Urquhart (1815–1871), an Irish politician and writer specializing in economic and policy questions of his day.
