Unsure? Ask an Expert!

Folklore, legends, myths and fairy tales have followed childhood through the ages, for every healthy youngster has a wholesome and instinctive love for stories fantastic, marvelous and manifestly unreal… It aspires to be a modernized fairy tale, in which the wonderment and joy are retained and the heart-aches and nightmares are left out.

L. Frank Baum, 1900.

‘The Queen Zixi of Ix’ was a book published in the ‘Wizard of Oz’ world, first published in the St. Nickolas magazine. This book follows the story of a magic cloak and the chaos that ensues from the wishes it grants in the two neighboring regions to the Land of Oz!

This first edition is the only Baum book published by Century or illustrated by Richardson. Bienvenue’s 2009 OZ book says

“QUEEN ZIXI is one of the few of Baum’s works to have professional editing and the story is among his finest

with Baum himself saying,

“nearer to the “old-fashioned” fairy tale than anything I have yet accomplished,” and in many respects, it adheres more closely to the fairy tale structure than the Oz books.”(Brian)

This first edition, second state includes 16 color plates with the original green cloth binding!
