  • Provenance: Handwritten – Edith Thompson
    • Possibly Edith Jessie Thompson (1893–1923), a British woman who along with her affair partner, Frederick Edward Francis Bywaters (1902–1923), was executed for the murder of Thompson’s husband Percy. Their case became a cause célèbre, with much of the evidence against Thompson being circumstantial, based only on her and Bywaters’ love letters. Her conviction has been attributed to bias against her as an adulteress, rather than on any evidence that she was involved with Bywaters’ actions.
