1915 Silent Film 1ed Alice in Wonderland Carroll + Looking Glass Nonpareil Scenes
Lewis Carroll’s landmark masterpiece, ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,’ was first published in 1865. This fascinating fantasy tale of a young girl falling down a rabbit hole, is surely one of the most iconic pieces of literature for all time. It has been adapted into many different versions of film, most notably by Disney in 1951.
‘Through the Looking Glass’ was published a few years after the success of ‘Adventures in Wonderland’. While it was never as popular as ‘Alice’ it did include “the greatest nonsense poem ever written in the English language, the ‘Jabberwocky’” (Gardner).
This early 20th-century American edition includes both titles in one binding notable for the full-page ‘photo-play’ illustrations. These engravings depict scenes from the Nonpareil feature silent film adaptation of Alice.
