Miguel de Cervantes’s ‘Don Quixote’ is one of the most famous works of literature and is one of the most popular adventure tales to be written. It was first translated into English in 1612 by Thomas Shelton who, according to Chisholm, created a “racy, spirited rending of the original” even though it was initially filled with translation errors. However, the DNB states that Shelton’s translation “realizes Cervantes’ manner more nearly than any successor”.

This 20^th-century edition was edited and ‘retold’ by Judge Parry who included the illustrations of Walter Crane throughout, both full-page color and black/white in-text engravings.
